Two Days Of Exquisite Acoustic Guitars

Hosted by ARC Guitar with the Sacramento Guitar Society and sponsored by local businesses, the festival will feature over a dozen luthiers -- builders of artistically crafted guitars and other fine stringed acoustic instruments, including mandolins, ukuleles and more.  Displayed by their makers, all of these instruments will be offered for sale.

A host of related events will add to the festival spirit, including players' workshops, finger style performers, concerts and an ongoing street faire featuring food and beverage vendors.

Mark Hanson

Topics :

Workshop #1 (Friday, 4:00 pm at ARC Guitar)

Get Started Fingerpicking! Grammy-Award winner Mark has written two best-selling books on this topic, and has a wealth of information, material, and insight for beginners to intermediates. Mark will discuss hand position, tone production, relaxation and musicality, as well as teach a variety of fingerpicking patterns that will allow you to quickly play tunes like his YouTube hit “Canyon Canon”.  Notation/tab handouts included!

Workshop #2 (Saturday, 3:45 pm at Berryessa Gap)

Get Started with Solo Fingerpicking! Take your fingerpicking to another level by adding the melody in the top voice! Mark has decades of experience successfully training people to do this, as evidenced by his book Art of Solo Fingerpicking,  book which is included in the recent publication 50 Greatest Guitar Books. Mark teaches the picking fingers to work independently of the thumb, allowing melodies with any rhythmic requirement to stand out above the accompanying chord tones. He will discuss hand position, use of picks (Mark himself doesn’t use picks, but has in the past), balancing volume of voices, melodic flow, and musicality. Plus, he will hand out picking exercises in notation/tab, along with several cool tunes of his to play. This class is fun!
